Entry Deadline:  September 15, 2008

IIt is with great pleasure that we announce the return of a popular youth activity for Highland Day ~ our second annual Student Arts & Letters Competition sponsored by Sandy Spring Bank.  All students from Kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to express their outlook, opinions and viewpoints through various forms of creative outlets based on this year’s theme.  “What Maryland Means to Me” is the 2008 competition theme. 

Sandy Spring Bank will award a fifty-dollar U.S. Savings to the top entry in each division & category.  Prizes will be awarded based on creativity, originality, presentation, and appropriateness to the theme. Entries may be placed on display in shops at Highland crossroads area in conjunction with Highland Day 2008 festivities

Our competition will accept original entries in two categories:  Creative Writing and Art.  Creative writing entries may include an essay, narrative, short story, poem, or song.  Art entries may include a drawing, painting, photograph, photo-collage, or computer-generated creation. 

The entry can relate to any aspect of Maryland including but not limited to the following:

  • History
  • People
  • Landmarks
  • Personal experiences
  • Environment and wildlife
  • Business and commerce
  • ABCs of Maryland
  • My Animal Friends
  • Other ideas – Get creative!
